Welcome to your travel guide and tourist information about short trips and city breaks in Vienna, Austria: www.viennahipsterguide.com
You've probably already heard about the famous Christmas markets of Vienna, but how about the Easter markets? These are similar events but instead of celebrating the upcoming Christmas they focus on Easter. There are artisan stalls selling handmade gifts and decorations, food stalls offering meat-, bakery products or warm street food, and then there are the eggs.
Every year a few weeks before Easter you will find beautiful hand painted eggs sold at these markets, especially at the Freyung Altwiener Ostermarkt. These are really special items, not only depicting general Easter themes with bunnies and stuff, but they also show a wide range of artistic designs, sometimes mimicking such Austrian artists as Klimt or Schiele. And of course, there are the Vienna themed painted eggs showing Viennese landmarks such as the Schönbrunn palace or the Lipizaner horses.
Here is a list of the best Easter markets in the city.
